Recently, I came across this image on Pinterest, which startled me with it’s unaffected beauty:
The classic french twist has always been a favorite hairstyle of mine. It exudes elegance, polish and femininity. I’ve long enjoyed wearing my hair up in this fashion, not least because I feel like I’m in a french movie from the 60s. When I came across the looser modern rendition above it occurred to me I’ve yet to share my french twist method on Defining Delphine. While I love the look above, and it inspired me for this post, my hair isn’t long enough to create that much of a cascading, unconstrained swirl. Yet, I like glancing at this image before I get going on my twist because it reminds me to toss out perfection as a goal. A stray hair here, a loose strand there – a little disorder creates a more real-world twist, appropriate with jeans and a tee as much as with a gown.
I know I always say “this is surprisingly simple” in my hair tutorials. But this one really is surprisingly simple. You’ll be delighted with the outcome. Write me, instagram me, text me and tell me what you think! I’d love to hear from you.
Let’s get started!
All done and off to the party…
ps. On lips I’m wearing Kevyn Aucoin The Matte Lip Color in Forever: a new discovery that is the perfect mesh of pink and red for a summer fête.
