I documented my strategy in Part 1 of the New Year’s Eve beauty diary as follows:
– soft color allowing to play up eyes and eat and drink and be merry without worry
-a strong nude liner for top-color longevity
– a nude-tan cream blush to warm up the skin in a natural way
– which emphasises cheekbones
– and photographs superbly
Now we’re onto eyes. I love deep navy tones for an evening out. Often discounted in favor of black, navy is dramatic but somehow, gentler. It’s distinctive – but in a way that no one will be able to quite identify. You’ll just look noticeable pretty. To create the look I used the well-priced ($17) Clinique Shadow Stick Tint in massive midnight. I like the ease of applying a stick shadow and of tossing it into my clutch to take along for touch-ups. However, I found that Clinique’s stick is rather emollient so you do need a brush to blend it; using your finger will lift the product right off the lid. Other options: Jouer offers a great navy stick shadow, Creme Eyeshadow Crayon in color Avant Garde, and for a shimmer enriched one, try By Terry’s Ombre Blackstar in Blue Obsession. I blended in Laura Mercier’s matte shadow in plum smoke around the the crease and lightly toward the browbone. It’s a lovely color, like a storm cloud with a hidden trace of pink. Using my failsafe liquid artliner in Navy from Lancome, I lined right at the lashbed across the eye and finished with a slight tail at the outer corners. A couple layers of a big glamour mascara and your eyes will be party-prepped. I used my favorite du jour, Guerlain’s Maxi Lash in Noir. It leaves lashes feeling extremely supple and soft – no crusty crabclaws here.
lastly HAIR. NYE rolls around when winter is at it’s bitterest. That means most of you will be heading out into a chilly night for your swanky party plans. So I plan (and you should to!) to wear a hat-friendly hair style: sleek, straight hair. Go ahead and sport that cute angora beanie (like the one featured in my style round up) or a prada-esque turban (I love this metallic headband from Ralph Lauren that my friend Yvonne got me for Christmas). You’ll be warmer and happier as you wait outside for the Uber that’s charging you a 50% premium. The hidden virtue of the hat is that it actually, factually, improves sleek, straight hair! It’s a styling tool, that preserves and seals that Demi Moore/Gwenyth Paltrow shape as you are to-ing and fro-ing.
To get the glossy look of those stars make sure you use a de-frizzing, glossifying heat protectant product before blow drying. I like bumble and bumble invisible hairdresser’s oil. Use a flat brush to minimize volume when you blow it dry. Next flatiron. I think the T3 single pass flatiron does a fine job. It’s not the best out there, but it’s perfectly adequate. Does anyone have a flatiron they love? Write in if you do!
Hope you all have a wonderful New Year’s! I wish you all much joy in your 2014 upcoming adventures and don’t forget to take all the special 2013 memories with you!
