I recently discovered Les Nouvelles, an online boutique that houses an extraordinarily well-edited selection of women’s accessories and clothing. It’s an impressive assortment of goods: they have managed to secure brands that are otherwise not widely distributed online, and the buying eye at work is skillful – the pieces are interesting, versatile, sexy and understated. While Net-A-Porter feels out of reach to the everyday woman, and Shopbop feels like the sunny crowd pleaser that is dizzyingly over-assorted, Les Nouvelles is the online equivalent of the Frick Museum – an edited, manageable, enjoyable collection of interesting works – in a range of prices. On the website’s “about” page, they write “The LN girl possesses an inimitable personal style that is both effortless and enduringly chic.” There is something very Parisian about that approach to style. It’s no wonder then that many of the marvelous contemporary brands they carry are French – Vanessa Bruno, IRO, Carven, Sonia Rykiel, and Equipment to name a few. Cacharel is one of my all-time favorite brands and it is hard to find outside of France; their bountiful selection of whimsical Cacharel print summer dresses made my heart skip a beat. Other favorites you can find on the site: the always reliable (and Kate Middleton fav) Issa, the menswear inspired Band of Outsiders, the relaxed-cool California lines Jenni Kayne and ALC, the lower priced diffusion line Fenton by Fenton Fallon designer Dana Lorenz (I’m lusting for this necklace) , and a slew of up and comers you won’t know and will be glad to discover.
Their collage boards (sample below) of trends from the season showcase the buyers’ inspiration and vision for how pieces can be styled. In fact, there are great editorial nuggets throughout the site. Even if you don’t spend, its a good place to get ideas for how to style your existing wares. Be warned – scrolling further may make you want to shop! The good news: most of the site is on summer sale right now.
Hope this helps with that case of the Mondays!
